About Us

Crospon, established in 2006, is developing leading edge minimally invasive medical devices for imaging and aiding surgery in the esophagus and stomach. The EndoFLIP® Imaging System is the first in a range of products the company is bringing to market. EndoFLIP® has applications in gastrodiagnostics, bariatric surgery and in other hollow organs where the measurement of dimensions and function is important. Behind Crospon, lies an experienced team who have years of experience in the medical device industry.

Executive Management Team

John O'Dea - CEO

With 18 years experience in the medical device industry, he has overseen the successful launch of seven electronic medical device products in the past thirteen years. He co-founded Caradyne, an Irish respiratory medical device company in 1998, which was selling products in 30 countries prior to its acquisition by Respironics Inc. in 2004. Prior to founding Crospon, he served as General Manager of Respironics Ireland. In the past 20 years he has held R&D management positions in Nellcor Puritan Bennett and engineering positions in Digital Equipment Inc. and in Dataproducts Inc. . He is a named author on six issued U.S. patent families. He is a Board member of Irish Medical Devices Association. He has been twice a finalist in the Irish Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year competition. He holds Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Electronics Engineering, all from University College Dublin.

Caroline Sherlock - Director of Operations

Ms. Sherlock has ten years experience in the medical device industry, and has held finance, quality and operational management roles with such companies as Caradyne and Respironics. Most recently she served as Quality Manager in Respironics Ireland, where she led the company's efforts in securing ISO13485 certification and in developing and maintaining an FDA QSR compliant facility. She has strong and diverse experience in the disciplines required to successfully launch an early stage medical device company. Ms. Sherlock holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from University College Galway and a Graduate Diploma in Business Studies from the University of Limerick.

Hugh Kavanagh - CFO

Mr. Kavanagh is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland, having trained and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Price Waterhouse. He has 19 years experience in a variety of companies in Medical and High Technology industries. He joined Crospon from Abbott Ireland Vascular Devices in Galway where he was Finance Director. Prior to that he served for six years as Managing Director at the Irish facility of RSA Security. At RSA, he was responsible for establishing the operation in Ireland, which services the company's customers in the Europe and Asia Pacific regions, generating 40% of RSA's worldwide revenues. He has also held senior Finance management positions in Tyco Healthcare, Transitions Optical and Oracle. In addition to his professional accounting qualification, he holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and a Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting from University College Dublin.

Adrian McHugh - Director of Engineering

Mr. McHugh has 13 years experience in electronics design and design management. Prior to joining Crospon he has worked with such companies as Space Technology Ireland, Nortel Networks and Respironics where he spearheaded the successful introduction of the Respironics BiPAP Focus non-invasive ventilator to the European and U.S. markets. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering Science degree from Trinity College Dublin.

Larry K Fulton - VP Sales - Americas

Mr. Fulton brings with him over 17 years of experience in minimally invasive surgery. Prior to joining Crospon, he worked with, Endogastric Solutions Inc. where as Director of Sales, US and Mexico, he oversaw the successful national sales introduction of two new medical device product lines. His experience also includes six years as National Sales Manager with the Inamed Health Division of the Allergan Corporation, five years with Johnson & Johnson Ethicon Endo Surgery and also a consultancy role with the American Institute of Gastric Banding. He holds a B.S. in Business Administration from San Diego State University.

Non-Executive Directors

John O'Shaughnessy - Chairman

John O'Shaughnessy has twenty five years experience in the medical device industry in top level general management, senior operations and commercial management positions. He founded MedNova Limited in 1997, a company which pioneered the development of embolic protection and carotid stent medical devices from concept stage to final FDA PMA approval in 2005. Prior to MedNova he was President and Managing Director of C.R. Bard Ireland (now Medtronic) where he was responsible for the development of the Bard facility from a manufacturing operation to a strategic business centre employing approximately 1,200 staff at time of leaving. He was a Board Director of the Irish Development Authority (IDA) from 1996 till 2000.

Michael Quinn - Non-executive Director

Michael Quinn is a non-executive director of Bank of Scotland (Ireland) and a number of the Bank's subsidiaries. Prior to his appointment as non-executive Director with the Bank, he served as Managing Director of ICC Bank for 10 years. He is also Chairman of Framework Solutions Ltd., and a non-executive director with Uniphar plc and Datalex. Michael is a commerce graduate and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). He is a former President of the Republic of Ireland Council of CIMA.

Conor McNamara - Non-executive Director

Conor McNamara is an independent financial consultant, having recently worked as an Investment Executive with the WDC Investment Fund which operates as a Venture Capital Fund in the Western Region of Ireland. He has spent the past 15 years in various senior financial positions, primarily with Mazars (Dublin), ING Furman Selz and with Boston Scientific Corporation in its Galway, Ireland facility. He has also worked with a number of Irish start-ups primarily in the software development sector. Conor is a business graduate from the University of Limerick and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountant in Ireland. He currently represents the WDC Investment Fund on the Boards of a number of its investee companies.
